ANDREW HUNTER

Andrew spent his working life as an Art Director and Creative Director for some of Scotland’s best known graphic design partnerships and businesses.  He was born in Edinburgh and studied there at the College of Art

His design background influences how he approaches his painting.  He seeks something more in his compositions – it may be drama, atmosphere or mood which inspires him.

Painting allows him freedom of expression without the restrictions of client’s desires and deadlines.  He is moved to paint by the changing light and contrasting drama of our landscapes and strives to find unique ways of expressing his compositions.

Andrew is interested in composition, colour, texture and subject matter, and likes to find the essence of the subject and develop an iconic way of focusing on this.  Finding the quirkier side of the character of the subject matter sometimes provides him with the opportunity to have a little fun and engage with the viewer.  He finds it hugely gratifying when he sees someone smile when they see his work.  He works in all mediums and approaches his work in an eclectic way dependent on his mood and the subject matter.

Everything, he says, is experimental!
