JENNY CHARLES

Jenny’s work is principally earthenware and for the last twenty years, or so, she has used a vibrant blue glaze which is very sympathetic to the marks made on surface of the work, sculptural and “non- functional” work in vessel form being her main preoccupation. These are influenced essentially by man’s impact on the environment – ploughed fields, weathered buildings, rusting objects but also shadows and reflections. Five pots are usually worked on at the same time using a variety of techniques i.e. throwing, coiling, slab work, pinching, and extrusion.

Jenny’s work has sold in many Craft Council selected galleries, group exhibitions and solo exhibitions in the UK , France and Germany.

In 2000 there was a change of direction and she became a Ceramic Restorer/Conservation after completing a two year post graduate Diploma at West Dean College in West Sussex. This path was followed for 10 years until the call of clay became too loud and she returned to making.

Since moving to Scotland Jenny has set up new workspaces and show room, and exhibited with Scottish Potters, and Perthshire Open Studios.

Jenny has held responsible leadership roles with respected art organisations and undertaken a number of major commissions.
