Living in Highland Perthshire and travelling throughout Scotland has always inspired Sonia. Whether in her work as watercolourist or sculptor, it is the countryside and coastline that gives her her ideas. Even in the 1970’s in San Francisco training and working as a jeweller, then partnering a successful city studio, it was to Perthshire that Sonia’s thoughts returned.
The 80’s saw her coming home to Aberfeldy. Here she spent many years collecting and dealing in antiques, running her busy town centre antique shop. It was during this time that she returned to painting, producing large, mainly locally inspired watercolours.
For the last seven years Sonia has been working three dimensionally in clay. Retiring from the antiques trade has enabled her to spend more time in her studio at home, where she can be creative. The subject matter is often based in nature, featuring wildlife or organic, sculptural shapes in her own style. Technically, she likes to test the limits whatever the medium.
Enjoyment of the creative process is enhanced by exhibiting locally, seeing her pieces going to private collections with an increasing number of commissions.
All Sonia’s work is high-fired stoneware and frost hardy (unless otherwise stated), suitable for garden or patio and of course for practical use or decoration within the home.
Commissions may be undertaken so please feel free to call Sonia.
