Angus is an award-winning international designer and maker based in Abefeldy. He bends, moulds, sculpts and folds local sustainable hardwoods to create exquisitely hand-crafted furniture, characterised by clean flowing lines, a lightness of touch and apparently effortless elegance that is always a pleasure to use. The work ranges from an innovative ergonomic rocking stool to large functional public art works.
He co-owns and manages an ancient woodland and carefully selects, fells and mills a few trees each year to use green for steam-bending or kiln dried for traditional furniture making. His sculptural steam-bent statement furniture is exhibited internationally including V&A London, Collect Saatchi Gallery London, Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, Sculptural Objects and Functional Art Chicago and Design Shanghai.
Angus was born in Edinburgh, grew up near Inverness, graduated with BSc Industrial Design from Napier University Edinburgh and designed for British High Street brands before re-training as a furniture maker at Rycotewood College, Oxfordshire. He is currently a mentor for the British Crafts Council.
