Angus Ross

Furniture ⋅ Woodworking

Angus is an award-winning designer and furniture maker based in Aberfeldy. Â He leads a small team of exceptional furniture makers and they transform local sustainable oak and ash into exquisitely hand-crafted furniture for homes, gardens and public places. Their special technique is steam bending which they use to create strong flowing components that allow an unusual lightness and elegance in solid wood furniture.

The work ranges from an innovative ergonomic rocking stool (found in V&A Dundee) to comfortable rocking chairs and statement dining tables, to bespoke collections of public furniture for museums across the UK.

Timber is sourced from a beautiful bluebell wood he co-owns and manages to allow amenity use, increase biodiversity, and improve the future health and resilience of the trees. He uses wind blown trees from local estates, and is part of an important local circular economy managing and protecting local native trees and woodland.

Angus has BSc Industrial Design from Napier University Edinburgh and he retrained in furniture making at Rycotewood Oxfordshire. He has provided workshop based training to many aspiring designer-makers and is visiting lecturer at the Snowdon School of Furniture Making at Highgrove.
