Laura Beresford

Painting

Laura grew up in the centre of London. In her adult life she moved around finally settling in Fortingall 4 years ago.

As a child she was influenced by her family’s interest in art. Her father and grandmother were both collectors and the conversation of Art and Artists was never far from the table.

She spent most of her adult life teaching English as a Foreign language, but the evenings were spent drawing in graphite and charcoal, and painting in watercolour.

Portraits hang on the walls at home and that was her focus. She learned a lot from the TV series Sky Portraiture of the Year especially during Covid when there was an abundance of events online and she started painting portraits of her friends and family who worked in the NHS as a token of gratitude. She continues to paint portraits on request.

Her love of walking and the outside drew her to Landscape art. Living close to the River Lyon provides plenty of inspiration. Her desire is to share glimpses of places of great beauty or intrigue. As Wordsworth said in his poem I wandered Lonely as a Cloud, it is when you are home [and I would add, in the middle of life’s rush and fury], that you remember the “bliss of solitude” and our “heart with pleasure fills”. Her work is an invitation to pause and be refreshed.

Sharing images to hang on walls invites the viewer to places of stillness, beauty and hope.
