Olivia van Hooft-Young
Works on Paper – Painting
Olivia is a visual artist based in Blairgowrie, Perthshire where she works from her home studio overlooking her garden. A love of art and drawing from a young age led to her studying a Duncan of Jordanstone in Dundee where she graduated with a degree in Fine Art.
It was during her time in art school that she discovered the technique of stippling, where monochrome areas of light and dark are created using only dots. While observing pattern and geometry in the world around her, she continues to develop her unique illustrative style focussing on a combination of stippling and line work to create intricate drawings with white ink inspired by our shared landscape and fauna.
In recent work she has enjoyed introducing some new techniques including paper embossing and 3D layering of her drawings to create more depth and a collage style effect.
